I lost a whole month to post-school lethargy (June) and then a whole month to job dissatisfaction (July). Ugh. My next post will have to chronicle the sheer weirdness of getting down in the cruise ships, which I've been doing, but there's too much to go into here, because conditions are not ideal. Some bright spots at the moment include the handicrafts that Adrienne, Alicia, and I will be selling on the internet and perhaps in town. They're going to be pretty awesome. They're actually not "handicrafts," they're accessories and jewelry. That's respectable. We're also well-stocked in the art department, and I've really been enjoying having the time to read or watch DVDs, even if I'm also reveling in low-brow. I've classed things up now that I've started reading The White Goddess, though: Robert Graves' "historical grammer of poetic myth" or some such. Adrienne seems to instinctively dislike it (or to be more accurate, says it 'makes her sick' and 'looks difficult') while I feel like it might prove to be the only signpost in my life's deserted highway at the moment. It just bludgeons you over the head with Follow Your Muse messages. How convenient that Graves won't be around for me to sue when I'm a destitute muse-following hobo. One of those dirty ones with dyed hair and a dog on a whimsical improvised leash and collar that just sits and begs. We dyed our hair (lie-locks for Adrienne, deadly nightshade for me). Step one is complete.
I subbed a radio show for the first time in quite a long time. I didn't prepare overly; my computer's totally on the fritz and so any music on it is inaccessible, and my iPod has the functionality of a mud pie, lately. Instead I brought a handful of old CDs (meaning not a lot of new stuff, and some regrettable overlap with previous shows) and Adrienne, who has commenced sitting in fascination at the control computer screen scrolling through the artists but who refuses to talk on the air, and tried to find some stuff in the library. Mostly unsuccessfully. Now we are playing a best of 90's club mix, as you will see.
